43 years of Beauty and Tourism
Miss Intercontinental is celebrating its 43rd anniversary this 2014 with the promise of “best show ever” for its edition in Tala Bay, Jordan.
With its humble beginning as a teen pageant, this annual pageant then transformed during early 1980s into what is now known as Miss Intercontinental. However, this pageant was put into a halt for almost a decade until the World Beauty Organization resumed its installation.
Now with more steady path and growing popularity in the world of beauty pageant, Miss Intercontinental is currently attracting an estimated 70 participants throughout the globe to vie for the Oriental Holy Water Crown.
The Most Expensive Crown
The crown is the most symbolic item a beauty queen can wear to reinforce her status as the crème de la crème beauty during her coronation and throughout her reign. With such a large crowd of expectators, pageant organizers are expected to pick the most stunning (and quite expensive-looking) crown for the winner.
So to speak, the WBO set the bar in that aspect in terms of price. Yes. And, yes. The Miss Intercontinental crown is VERY expensive (with a capital and bold font E).
According to the pageant’s website, the crown known as the Oriental Holy Water has been, for nine years now, posed to be the most expensive crown among all pageants. With a skyrocketing price of three million yuan (361,446 US dollars), this crown was designed by FUQI China during their 2005 official jewelry sponsorship in Miss Intercontinental. It is then said that the crown has a total of 21 carats of diamonds (720 diamonds, one big diamond of 51/2 carats included water from the yellow river).
With this, the Oriental Holy Water crown stays at the WBO office and can only be used during the annual coronation night of Miss Intercontinental.
The Current Winner: Russia
This 23 year old Russian-born lady, Ekaterina Plekhova, proved that one can get best of both worlds through hardwork and motivation. She has not only distinguished herself as beauty queen but also as a doctoral candidate in technical arts.
So for the aspirants in the upcoming Miss Intercontinental, Ekaterina shared that being hardworking, intelligent, and having positive attitude are her best traits. With these things in her system, she was able to wear the most expensive crown and more importantly, the pride of being Miss Intercontinental.
